Join us on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at St. Peter's Church for our third annual fundraiser, The Gathering, on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at St. Peter’s Church in Mount Pleasant, SC starting at 5:30 pm. This year’s keynote speaker is Emmy Award winner and best-selling author, Michael Guillen, Ph.D., with live music provided by Charleston’s premier party band, PlaneJane.

Dr. Guillen co-produced the award-winning movie, The Little Red Wagon, that was filmed in Charleston in 2010. He returns to the area for the first time and will be speaking in Charleston on two occasions. On Friday, October 26th at noon, Dr. Guillen will be introduced to the Charleston Library Society by Mayor John Tecklenberg. Life Resources’ Executive Director, Dr. Barbara Boatwright, will then interview Dr. Guillen about his latest book and first novel, The Null Prophecy, a contemporary thriller about the unintended consequences of scientific innovation set against the backdrop of two pending world disasters.

Dr. Guillen will then share part of his personal journey reconciling science and faith at Life Resources annual fundraiser, The Gathering, on Sunday evening. He is a theoretical physicist who earned his doctoral degree in Physics, Math, and Astronomy from Cornell University as well as a former Harvard University Instructor. Dr. Guillen is best known as a three-time Emmy Award winning ABC News Chief Science Editor, a post he held for fourteen years. He has regularly appeared on Good Morning America, 20/20, and Nightline, and has written and hosted numerous television series for PBS, Discovery, and History channels. Dr. Guillen is currently an editorial contributor to Fox News.

Dr. Barbara Boatwright, Founder and Executive Director of Life Resources, comments, “Charleston is fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from Dr. Guillen, as an accomplished physicist on the cutting edge of scientific innovation and world events. His ability to address the complex issues of our times in a relatable and meaningful way is remarkable.”

The Gathering serves as Life Resources’ primary fundraiser for The Seeds of Life Scholarship Fund which provides affordable counseling, coaching, and tutoring services to the greater Charleston community. The fund helps to sustain Life Resources’ mission of personal transformation through healing, equipping, and training people to successfully discern and fulfill their purpose in life. Life Resources scholarships also help offset the cost of training opportunities for mental health professionals, as well as provide community wide emotional and relational wellness resources for free or at a reduced cost. Through the generous support of individuals, churches, and local businesses, approximately 25% of individuals and families served by Life Resources have received financial assistance or free services.

In addition to Dr. Guillen’s presentation, The Gathering will feature live entertainment by PlaneJane, with drinks and heavy hors d’oeuvres provided by Good Food Catering and The Wine Shop of Charleston. Both events will feature book signing with Dr. Guillen. For more information on either event, and to purchase tickets, visit www.myliferesources.org/thegathering.
