Age of Opportunity: A Biblical Guide to Parenting Teens

  • Life Resources 890 Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Mount Pleasant, SC, 29464 United States (map)

This summer, Life Resources will be offering standalone discipleship classes on various subject matters. The first class we will be offering is Age of Opportunity: A Biblical Guide to Parenting Teens. This class will be offered once on Thursday, June 15th at 5:30 pm and once on Tuesday, June 27th at 10:00 am. All participants are required to pre-register for each class and there is no fee for this class. See below for the course description.

We live in a culture of cynicism and negativity when it comes to teenagers which has infiltrated the Christian family. This cynicism has it's roots in a biological view of teenagers that sees them as no more than rebellious and physically incapable of living responsibly. This class aims to help parents identify the ways in which the cynicism of the culture has influenced the ways they think about and respond to their teenage children. It encourages parents to look for daily opportunities to be a part of what God is doing in the life of their teenagers, viewing parenting through the teenage years as an "age of opportunity" rather than a battle.

In this class, we will look specifically at three strategies for parenting teens which include:

  • Project Parenting
  • Constant Conversation
  • Leading your Teenager to Repentance.

Together, these three strategies will give the parent focus and direction to daily interaction with their teen. Understanding and applying these strategies will help you to know what you are doing, why you are doing it, and how it needs to be done. It is important to remember that the God who has called us to parent our teens, is parenting us. He is there to help guide, protect, and love us. Your job as parents is not to deliver our children from sin, but to be agents of the only One who can.
