Mental Health Considerations For Sex Trafficking Survivors: Blending the Best of Science and Faith

Join us, students and professionals, for a one-day training workshop with Amanda Gopal, LCSW.

Where is this event located?
Charleston Southern University in the Whitfield Center for Christian Leadership, rooms 102 and 103.

Who should attend?
Licensed therapists and other professionals who work with trauma survivors and those interested in working with victims of sex trafficking, including law enforcement, police chaplains, and pastors. Students in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Criminal Justice, and Pastoral Counseling are also welcome.

Are CEUs available?
Yes. Five Continuing Education Credits will be offered for Licensed Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists are available. CEU credit is an additional fee for registrants.

Schedule:
Morning Session: 9:00-11:30 am

Title: Trauma and Mental Health Considerations for Victims of Sex Trafficking
Description: This training will provide an overview of trauma and it's effects on the victim of sex trafficking including the impact on brain development and behavior. Specific attention will be paid to the differences between sex trafficking and other types of sexual abuse and assault. This workshop will review strategies for mitigating the effects of trauma and interacting with victims in trauma-informed ways. Special consideration will also be given to the spiritual dynamics of trauma. 
Objectives: 
1)    Review the impact of trauma on sex trafficking survivors including neurobiological responses to trauma
2)    Understand the spiritual dynamics of trauma and recovery
3)    Identify ways that professionals can accommodate the needs of survivors and mitigate the effects of trauma

Afternoon Session: 1:00-3:30pm
Title: Assessment and Treatment of the Sex Trafficking Victim
Description: This workshop will focus on clinical considerations when working with survivors of trafficking including common characteristics and themes in symptomology,  Assessment tools and specific therapeutic interventions effective in working with this population will also be reviewed. Discussion throughout this workshop will focus on integrating the Christian faith into the the therapeutic process.
Objectives:
1) Develop an understanding of common symptoms that are present in victims of trafficking 
2) Identify three evidenced-based practices that are used to treat this population
3) Identify ways to integrate the Christian faith into the treatment of sex trafficking victims
